Our world of nature

Lockdown living and dog pats at all time high, nature returns to our cities and more…

Our native birds are thriving. There have been reports from around the country that New Zealand’s birdlife are enjoying a break from all the noise and commotion, with tūi and kererū arriving in many a backyard. Kaka have also been spotted in Motueka and a kārearea found a perch in downtown Wellington before grabbing a takeaway meal in the form of a local starling. More people are recognising just how important their garden visitors and celebrating the rare sights and diverted flights of our beautiful birds.

Worldwide nature. It’s happening everywhere. In Florida there are more nests of endangered sea turtles thanks to less human contact and waste. In England foxes have become even more prominent in towns and cities. However so too has fake news made an impact (no, there were no dolphins in the canals of Venice, nice though it may have sounded).

No, lions have not returned to cities.

Is pet love at a record high? With all this time at home our pets have on average been enjoying the highest level of attention and affection. Some owners are even making the most of this period by using their loved ones to recreate works of art, like this ‘good girl with the pearl earring’…

For inspiration in isolation. Looking for something to do while we all keep to ourselves as much as possible? How about getting to know the wonders of Photoshop? While it takes a bit of skill to get an image looking just right what is just as important is the creativity behind the ‘shop. For inspiration check out this giant dachshund leading it’s owner through the streets of New York…

Or this series of adapted and/or improved movie posters…
