This airspace ain’t big enough for the both of us.

As drones are becoming more popular around the world there have arisen many entertaining instances of conflict between bird life and the technology.

A recent study has shown that this technology can be used properly to ensure minimal impact on native bird populations. That hasn’t stopped some (man-made) conflict between the airspace users however.

In Holland Dutch police are testing the use of eagles to disable illegally operated drones. Their work is in partnership with a company called ‘Guard From Above’. Their website says they are “the world’s first company specialized in training birds of prey to intercept hostile drones.”

We’re planning to photograph our farm with a drone in the not too distant future. Guess we better ensure there are no Kārearea (NZ falcon) in the area – or nesting magpies either!
