Sowing seeds

Topflite supports the Kiwi Conservation Club

To help grow young Kiwi conservationists, we’re giving away a little something for kids to share with their local birds.

For 30 years Forest & Bird’s Kiwi Conservation Club (KCC) has been connecting Kiwi kids to New Zealand’s amazing wildlife and wild places. They support their 5000 members throughout New Zealand to get involved in conservation projects like tree planting, making lizard gardens and nesting boxes for korora (little blue penguins).

From this week on, we’re showing our support for young conservationists by donating a small packet of Wild Bird Seed for the KCC’s welcome packs. The packs go out to all those renewing their membership as well as new members. Along with the packet of seed we’ve included our top tips for looking after the local birdlife.

Wild Bird Seed packs for Forest and Bird's KCC

Grown locally in rich Oamaru soil, our Wild Bird seed is packed full of essential nutrients birds and provides a great source of energy for wild birds when food is scarce.

Putting out quality food is one step kids can take to create a bird-friendly sanctuary in their backyard. It’s fun to see who visits the bird feeder when there’s a consistent supply of good seed around! Kids learn to identify different species and become aware of seasonal feeding needs. Getting to know the local birds is the first step to understanding the importance of preserving them.

We love and support Forest & Bird’s crucial work in speaking up for nature and hope you do too. Consider purchasing a membership as a gift for young folk this Christmas. As well as a little something for our mutual friends in high places, it comes with four issues of the wonderful Wild Things magazine and monthly email newsletters with great activity ideas.
